P Agalya completed her schooling at Chennai HSS school Nungambakkam scoring 1062/1200 in Class 12. She had taken Home science as her main subject. She did a 3 years diploma in nursing at MA Chidambaram Nursing College, Chennai. She stays in the college hostel. During her entire schooling, she stayed at Mottukal a free hostel run by sisters of Good Shepherd. Her parents are from Perungudi Medu and she sees them once a year.
