Gomathi completed school at the Chennai Higher Secondary School Nungambakkam. She scored 475 out of 500 in Class 10 and 1088 out of 1200 in Class 12. Her father, an auto driver, was not keen on sending her for further studies because of the huge expenses. He wanted her to start working and support the family. Her mother was a sickly person and was not able to go to work. One of her younger brothers is doing CA., and the other one is in College. Her continuing perseverance and determination made her father accept her desire and she is now working for Citi Bank as a Software Developer after completing her BE in Electronics & Instrumentation from Valliammai Engineering College.
